PLANET YONI

Planet Yoni is an all-girl nine-piece international powerhouse band based in Graz/Vienna, Austria. The band was founded to showcase female talent and giving a spotlight to important female artists like Erykah Badu, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, and many others. With three singers, a full horn section and a rhythm section, Planet Yoni is a unique project, the likes of which had never been heard before in Austria.

TURTUR

The experimental pop Graz-based duo TurTur is the result of the two members, Faye and Max, having lived together in a communal flat. Through their shared wall, each grew accustomed with the other’s practice sessions, discovering their similar tastes in music and art, and eventually decided to collaborate. Each had previous experience in various bands before, but neither had been able to fully embrace more personal and experimental production styles and processes.
Their sonic profile can be described as a mixture of hypnagogic pop atmospheres and trip-hop-leaning drums, utilizing self-made electronics and modified cassette recorders to create strange textures that could sit comfortably in more pop-centric aesthetics. The result is a sound that feels slightly blurred at the edges; part dream, part tension, drifting between hooks and abstractions without fully settling into either.
Lyrically, the project is mainly involved in describing the variety of emotions provoked by living under a patriarchal society. Overall, the songs embody a sense of discomfort with modern socio-political issues while simultaneously being content with the mundane aspects of daily routines. These words are carried by a vulnerable voice through stories of misogyny, harassment, and the everyday struggles of being fem-presenting in a male-dominated society.
